Winter Fun Competition No 1 - Results
The first winter fun competition of 2017 was held on Sunday 29 January. The format was Bowmaker medal.
100 players turned out for the first Bowmaker of the year! 25 teams crammed onto the course for an 8:30 bang start in threatening weather conditions which failed to deliver the tempest forecast and we mostly stayed 'dryish' with showers and a gentle drizzle ensuring that the wet gloves were needed.
In keeping with all the fun competitions last year there were a lot of bragging rights at stake and the format ensured that scoring would be keen. The greens are beginning to repair from the fusarium that's blighted us for the past few months and mostly ran true. The wet weather of the past couple of weeks ensured that the greens were receptive to the high ball and winter golf, in addition to being shorter, really is a different proposition with accuracy and good club selection essential to make up for the lack of run on the fairways and pace on the greens. Some teams managed to rise to the challenge.
A very close finish saw the first 4 teams filling their own score slots with no ties to sort out. Congratulations to Ray Gregory, Frank Callaway, Jim Dufosee and Tom Smith for taking the honours with a fine net 120 (20 under par). Results are as follows:
