West Wilts Wagglers 2024 Season
The 2024 season culminated on the 28th September, when 36 past and present Wagglers took part in Wagglers Trophy Day.
The season kicked off in April with 24 players taking on old rivals Chippenham in a Ryder cup style match played over 3 days playing at Launceston and then playing and staying at Lanhydrock golf club, Cornwall. The result was disappointing with Chippenham taking the cup home once again, next season’s captain, Steve Hunt, will undoubtedly look to pick a winning team and bring the cup back home to West Wilts. This season the Wagglers had 14 matches - winning 9, losing 4 with 1 match halved. In total 47 different players took part in these 14 matches.
Wagglers Trophy Day is a wonderful way to end a season and is steeped in tradition the vice-captain for the 2025 is chosen by the past and present captains, this year Jamie Darvill was chosen to be the vice-captain to Steve Hunt, for the 2025 season and therefore captain for the 2026 season.
The competition itself is a multi-format affair with players playing an individual medal round playing for the Wagglers Trophy; a stableford round playing for the Wagglers plate and a team game that is decided by the current captain.
This year's team game was a Bowmaker which was won by team Kim Harrild, Darren Munro and Anton Newton. The Trophy was won by Brian Campbell with a magnificent nett 64 and the Plate was won, on count back, by Gangaprasad Gurung with 40 points. There were also 6 spot prizes - nearest pins on all par 3’s and nearest pin in 2 on 18, the spot prize winners were Anton Newton, Darren Munro, Mike Barter, Dave Moloney, Kim Harrild and Wayne Black.
The golf was followed by prize giving and a 3-course meal.
I would like to personally thanks all those that played this season - both in the matches and the trophy day, as well as West Wilts Golf Club office staff Lawrence and Sue for their support , Bar and catering staff Ruth, Sam, Lee, Helen and Peter for looking after us so well during the season and last but no least the green keeping staff Neil, Dave, Pete, Steve and Jamie for presenting the course in such a fantastic condition week in week out.
