"West Wilts Golf Club Seniors do the Turkey Trot"

What with their recent Texas Scramble and the Turkey Trot on Thursday 24th November you might think this particular gang of Trotters had completely lost the plot or even created their own rival to Strictly Come Dancing!

Sorry to disappoint you all but this was 40 members from the Seniors' Section West Wilts Golf Club on their annual Turkey Trot with meat vouchers from Robbins, traditional butchers of Market Place, Warminster, to the eventual winners. Trotters, in a 3 ball stableford format fought it out under cold but dry conditions with the following close result:
  • 1st with 41 points - John Barnes
  • 2nd with 40 points - Jeff Gardner
  • 3rd equal with 39 points - Dave Morgan/Vic Simpson
It was a pleasure to welcome The Captain, Walter Witts, who regularly plays with all sections, Seniors, Mixed and Wagglers as well as attending prizegivings and social events. A special thanks is due to John Walpole who as Seniors' Competitions Secretary organised the whole event with alacrity and a marked degree of dexterity. Six players resulted in a handicap increase and there were no reductions due to the event being played over the winter and not the yellow tee configuration. If there are any questions please don't ask me! Anyway, a good time was had by all which is all that really matters in the final analysis.

In conclusion, have any of you ever wondered when the first streaker struck at a golf Major? Well, you are about to find out. It was at The Open, Royal St George's GC, Sandwich, in July 1985. The streaker approached the player, Peter Jacobsen, on the 18th Green who, rather than let him pass, tackled the streaker and turned his head to one side in order to avoid getting a mouthful of parsley. Jacobsen was heard to remark that the said streaker was of "meagre proportions in the nethermost regions" and responded by holding his fingers about an inch apart to the attendant crowd, remarked, "He was a tap-in!"
