Seniors Report - JUL26
Monday, 27th July
On Monday, 27th July, a team of your committee members headed off to Kingsdown Golf Club to take part in their 50th Anniversary Invitation Bowmaker.
Representing West Wilts were:
Mark Beech, Kieran McGivern, Neil Lanning and Cliff Howard
A special mention goes to Kieran, who stepped in at very short notice after Jonathan Bower was unfortunately unable to play. Thankfully Kieran agreed before he realised he’d be spending the day with the rest of the committee!
The conditions were certainly “interesting”. The sun was relentless, the fairways were baked harder than a Sunday roast, and tee shots that normally travel 220 yards were suddenly auditioning for the Open Championship, bouncing, and rolling off into the next postcode.
As for the golf… it would be stretching the truth to claim that any of us produced a career-defining performance. However, that’s the beauty of a Bowmaker. Whenever one of us found trouble, the other three generally managed to rescue the hole. There always seemed to be at least two decent scores to count, proving that teamwork really can disguise a multitude of golfing sins!
Against a strong field of 27 teams, we finished a very creditable 6th overall and, even better, were Runners-Up in the Visiting Teams competition. A result we’re all rather pleased with.
More importantly, Kingsdown were outstanding hosts. The event was superbly organised from start to finish, the course was presented beautifully despite the dry conditions, and everyone made us feel genuinely welcome. We’d like to thank the members and organisers for putting on such an enjoyable day and congratulate them on celebrating their 50th Anniversary.
Congratulations to the team for flying the West Wilts flag so well. It wasn’t perfection, but it was consistent, competitive, and just enough to bring home a little silverware… or at least the bragging rights of being the second-best visitors!
