Secretaries Cup – Report
36 teams competed this Sunday for the Secretaries Cup, the Greensomes format being one of our few pairs competitions that tests all aspects of both players’ games. And so it did.
Despite kind weather and nothing more than a one-club wind many of the favourites fell back into the pack. The course played a good length off the white tees and encouraged the big-hitting pairs to attack the card; it appears most did, unsuccessfully.
The winners came from amongst the favourites, with Dharma Gurung introducing his recently-joined partner Prakash Gurung to the nuances of West Wilts competitions. A score of 40pts was sufficient to take the spoils with the Sims pairing of Chris and Terry taking second on 39pts, and a three-way tie on 38pts saw Phillip Piercy and Mick Shipp take third on countback with an excellent 22pts coming home.
