REMEMBRANCE DAY BOWMAKER
Bragging rights changed after incorrect result declared!
Our annual Remembrance Day Bowmaker, traditionally the first fun competition of the winter, is always keenly fought and has in the past been the season’s opener for establishing bragging rights though the winter season. With the course played off winter tees with winter rules in place the scoring was keen with little room for mistakes and some strong teams vying for the top spot in sunny, crisp and dry weather conditions.
A surprise result saw the team of Frank Callaway, Chris Birch, Tom Smith and Pete Arkle receiving their Poppy Day medals but later scrutiny of the scorecards found an error and they unfortunately have been adjusted down to 4th place on count-back (sorry guys). The clear winners (net 123) and 2016 Poppy champions are Steve Clements, Kevin Lucas, Tige Ladd and Tom Hibbs. More annoyingly is that we know the bragging rights will be extensively voiced until the next competition (the Colin Coward Texas Scramble on 11th December).
Over £350 was raised for the British Legion Poppy Appeal and as usual all entry fees and winnings have been donated to the Appeal. The generosity extended well into the afternoon and even the freebie-issued pitchforks were exchanging hands for hard currency by mid-afternoon. A big thank-you and well done to the 23 teams who turned out and we look forward to seeing you all out on 11th December.
