Pro-Am Report
Ryder Cup star Phillip Price sets a new course record to highlight Pro-Am successes.
West Wilts Golf Club Pro-Am delivered a magnificent event for the club on Friday 18 September and excellent weather combined with a course in perfect condition enabled 2002 Ryder Cup star Phillip Price to set a new course record mark of 60.
A full entry list of 31 teams lined up to compete for a mix of team and individual prizes provided by the club and sponsors, including a car for a hole-in-one on the 4th by Platinum Motors of Trowbridge. Our principle sponsor, Derek Howard from St James Wealth Management, presented prizes and we thank him and all the sponsors mentioned below for their generosity and support in making the day so memorable.
Each team of 4 included a PGA professional from the South West and Wales region, and in addition to Phillip Price was former European Tour player Scott Drummond and last year’s winner (our own pro) Lawrence Wilkin. Lee Thompson (Dudsbury GC) was just two shots behind Price with an excellent score of 62, which in recent years would have been enough to win the pro event.
The team event was won by West Wilts members Johnny Rowe, Paul Wood and Clive Atkinson partnered by pro Chris Gill (Newquay GC) with a team score of net 118 (20 under par). They were followed into second place by Phillip Price’s team of West Wilts members Steve Clements, Phil Harris and Club Champion Tige Ladd with a score of 122. Tige reported that “Phil Price putted like a god to make his score” and is testament to the work that our ground staff have put in this year to make our greens as good as they have ever been.
Team Results List
In his winner’s speech, Phillip Price commended the Club on the organisation of the day and promised to return next year to defend his title (form an orderly queue for 2016 please!). Guy Bettesworth (Captain) was a very proud man presenting the prizes alongside Derek Howard and thanked all of the sponsors, the SW Region PGA and his team at West Wilts for their support given during the day to make such a successful event.
We are indebted to the following sponsors for making the day such a great success:
