Lady Captains’ Day
Thursday, 24 July 2025
The theme for this year’s Lady Captain’s Day was a team competition England v France. 32 ladies took part and all dressed suitably for the occasion in their nation’s colours. Mr Lady Captain Ian Bell acted as starter inviting the ladies to tee off with a Yorkshire pudding! Needless to say the drives didn’t go very far. At the 18th green the ladies were instructed to take their first putts using a baguette. There were some interesting techniques developed for this challenge.
A lovely buffet lunch was provided by Peter and the bar staff . Prizes were awarded to the highest scoring English pair and French pair, nearest the line and nearest the pin. The overall winner of the team competition was England with 288 points against France with 281 points – a close result.
The day was also a celebration for Ann Gower who was celebrating her golden wedding anniversary with Ivan. Ann kindly offered the ladies a celebratory cupcake to mark the occasion.
