LOMBARD TROPHY REPORT - UPDATE
Club Pro Lawrence Wilkin and winner of the May Medal Dirk Pinnell played in the Regional Finals of the Lombard Trophy competition over the Burnham & Berrow Links on Thursday 11th June.
There were 62 pairs (amateur/pro) in the field and competition, as expected, was fiercely tight. Lawrence and Dirk notched up a field-leading front nine score of 7-under but were held-up on hole after hole from the 10th onwards (PL eat your heart out!) and took a further 3 hours to finish. Clevedon GC, who started first 5 hrs before Lawrence and Dirk, had a clear run and were clubhouse leaders through the day on 7-under for the round.
Both Dirk and Lawrence played some excellent golf and dovetailed well but couldn’t get through the 7-under barrier. With the added pressure of the Leaderboard in his sights on the 18th green (and tied on 7-under with Cleveland) Lawrence was putting for birdie from 12-feet only to lip-out and score par. 8-under would have won it and our team lost out to second place on the count-back.
We wish Cleveland GC well as they now go through to the Grand Final at Gleneagles this autumn.
The Lombard Trophy is the UK's biggest ProAm competition with Regional Qualifier winners being invited to compete at the Grand Final over two days at Gleneagles in September. Details of the Lombard Trophy can be found here.
