LADIES - December 2015
The first report from the Ladies Captain for 2016.
Ladies’ events and competitions in November and December benefitted from fine weather and excellent course conditions and were all very well supported.
The Tuesday 9-hole roll-ups have been extremely well supported with the draw taking place at 9.45am, everyone is welcome. Some of our newer lady members have been achieving very high scores. Of particular note recently is that Barbara Field achieved a birdie then an eagle at the 8th on the same day.
Similarly the Thursday roll-ups played over 18 holes, which draw at 9.30am, have been enjoyed by those who braved the weather. Thursday weather more recently not being as clement as Tuesdays!
In the lead-up to Christmas the Ladies’ Veterans captain Malvina Whitten, organised the Vets Winter competition, which enjoyed a large entry and all competitors were treated to mince pies, stollen cake and drinks after the match. Thanks to Malvina for a most enjoyable day.
26 ladies competed in the Turkey Trot competition. We enjoyed glühwein and mince pies afterwards and everyone won a prize.
On the day of the Ladies’ Christmas lunch most of the ladies played 9 holes before a delicious meal cooked and served by Sandra and her staff. It was a great event to see the 8 ladies who had been members but for one reason or another can no longer play golf to join us for the meal and after-match celebrations. After lunch we held a ‘Ladies who Lunch’ hat competition and this was judged by former Club President Geoff Titt who decided that Melanie Derham’s creation was best in show!
The weather over the New Year and into January has now turned against us but we have only missed one of the Sunday mixed competitions due to the course being closed. Turn-out has been good with 22 to 24 players on most Sundays.
Forthcoming events:
23 January Burns Night Dinner in aid of the NSPCC, the Lady Captain’s charity.
24 February Speaker evening – ‘Developing a Positive Mind for Golf’. Linda Scrace, a local golfer who has a degree in psychology and is currently in the process of obtaining a Golf Psychology Coaching Certificate will be speaking on how to improve the mental part of the game.
This event is being held in the clubhouse at 7.30pm on Wednesday 24th February. Cost £5.
