Junior Open Championships 2022
Report and Results
Monday 25th July 2022 saw our annual Junior Open Championships.
12 boys and 3 girls with ages from 10 to 17 and handicaps +2 to 36 competed for the titles in very blustery conditions.
The Boy’s Champion was Finlay Mulvey, 16 years old, (5 Handicap) from Marlborough. Shooting a gross 69 he won on countback from 17-year-old, (+ 2 handicap) Ellis Bright from Cumberwell Park.
The nett competition was also tied. Two 14 years olds, James Legg (14 handicap from Chippenham) beat Felix Manners (22 handicap from Minchinhampton) on countback after a tie on nett 67. Our own 12-year-old Toby Morris (16 handicap) came 3rd on nett 68.
Sisters from The Kendleshire took the honours in the Girls Championship. Summer Carash (13 years old, 6 handicap) shot a magnificent gross 78 to win the Girls Championship. Her 10-year-old sister Alicia (15 handicap) took the best nett prize.
Club Captain, Ernie Hiscock, presented the prizes. Welcoming the competitors, he expressed the hope that they would have as much fun and enjoyment from golf as he has.
In accepting his prize, Boy’s Champion, Finlay Mulvey made an mature and gracious speech paying thanks to all involved with the event.
Once again, these youngsters showed respect, etiquette, sportsmanship, fun, and enjoyment of the game.
It was a pleasure to see.
