HOARE SALVER, DART CUP AND DART CUP PLATE REPORT - 1 MAY 2016
Three trophies in one day; 68 competitors, three divisions, CSS 70, a bit of sun, a bit more wind, and no rain! Medal format.
The first trophies of the year were settled on Sunday 1 May in less than perfect conditions with a keen, cold wind on a course which is still settling down after a winter of heavy, full-time use. Off the back tees on every hole saw members being seriously challenged to make some of the tougher par 4s in regulation and scoring was generally quite high.
The Hoare Salver for handicaps upto 10 was won by 2015 Club Champion, Tige Ladd with a gross 72 (net 68) just one shot ahead of Duncan Gee and Nat Davies. Tige’s gross 72 was 5 shots better than anyone else in the 68-man field.
The Dart Cup for 11-18 handicaps was tied by Stuart McGregor-Johnson and RJ Robson with net 66s and will have to be decided with a play-off by the end of the month. Dirk Pinnell took 3rd place with a net 68, closely followed by Mark Hicketts and Derek Howard on 69s.
The Dart Cup Plate for 19-28 handicaps was comfortably won by Malc Shergold (net 75) with Paul Osborne taking 2nd place (net 77) and Alan Jackson and Jim Dufosee in 3rd and 4th with net 78s.
Well done to all prize winners. Trophies and winnings were presented by Club captain Walter Witts.
