Gents Invitational - Saturday 11 June
38 pairings set off to a bang-start on a balmy afternoon with rain threatening and tempests forecast by the Met Office.
A full course and some very competitive golf saw friendships and rivalries renewed in our annual Mens Invitational 4BBB event on Saturday. With the onus on relaxed, casual, but intensely competitive golf with invited friends the only threat to dampen spirits was the ever-present thunder clouds rolling in from the Mendips. Fortunately we stayed dry (mostly) and with hardly any wind and some generous pin placements scoring was inevitably high.
Best score of the afternoon was provided by the Army pairing of Al Falconer & Andy Brewer with an excellent 46pts played off 90% of handicaps (8 & 10 respectively). One shot behind was Kevin Murphy & N McWilliams and a further shot adrift was Chris Simms & Andy Kaskow (great to see you back Andy) who picked up 3rd place on count back with 23pts on the back nine. Also on 44pts were Colin Williams & Mark Cotterill and Ray Gregory & D Gilbert.
Only six 2s were picked up during the afternoon (although Al Falconer did get another 3, but hadn't entered the 2s pot! Sorry to have to mention it Al, and all the best on your new posting - we'll miss having you around). Nearest the pin on the 4th was picked up by Martin Bradbury and the Nearest in 2 on the 18th by Rupert Williams.
Well done to all the prize-winners and a big thank-you to everyone who took part, and especially the helpers, for making it a truly excellent afternoon. Only dampened by the England soccer team working hard on their own Brexit campaign!
