DUFOSEE TAMES THE BEAST FROM THE EAST - FUN COMP #2
On a morning when the course was literally frozen solid, temperatures colder than in the Pyeongchang curling rink and the greens harder than slate Jim Dufosee and his team showed that with enough shots anything is possible.
A full field of 24 4-man teams played a bang-start, Progressive Bowmaker format (2 scores on par 5s, 3 scores on par 4s and all 4 scores on par 3s to count) off ¾ handicap, stableford competition. A last minute change from medal format seemed like a great idea and probably saved an hour off the round time (and a lot of frustration, and not a little embarrassment for some).
Players were seen to be putting from 100yds on fairways that took break but didn't give anything back to the ball, bunkers with sand like concrete and just how many balls actually did end up in the quarry pit beyond the 9th? Ans: At least every one that took on the green!
6 teams tied on 105pts and 2 teams on 106pts; the score-checkers had their work cut-out to sort out the top 4 placings and in the event Jim, John Edwards, Tom Smith and Jim Glass took the bragging rights with a homeward 9 score of 53pts ahead of Paul Trim, Chris and John Lindop and Malc Shergold with 49. Full results are below (only the top 4 countbacks are shown).
Geoff Sims presented prizes on his first engagement as Club Captain and was grateful that so many stayed for prize-giving - a great turn-out. The next Fun Competition is on 18th March and places are filling-up fast.
