Captain's Cross Country
Friday, 27th June 2025
On an extremely warm and Sunny afternoon/evening, 65 intrepid golfers battled to be the winner of the Annual Captain’s Day Cross Country challenge.
A nine hole competition, the course played in an unorthodox manner, holes such as “Dastardly Drop”, “Kidnappers Killer” and “Risky Rough” were only a few of the holes set up to bamboozle and frustrate the golfers.
To make things worse the 2nd hole in play (Stroke Index 1) was made even harder due to the fact that the top green was in play shielded by heavy rough in front where many of the balls found their last resting place (until it’s cut in winter 😂).
However, three players tackled the difficult course with aplomb with 18 points apiece, however after a countback, first place went to Nick Bishop, second to Danny Taylor and third to Paul Davies.
Thank you to everyone who took part and for helping to raise around £300 on the night for the Captain’s charities.
Finally, a big thank you from me to Jonathan in the pro shop, the green staff, Ernie for collating and verifying the cards and as always to the fantastic bar team ably led by Ruth without whose assistance events such as these just wouldn’t work.
