Captain’s Charity Cross-Country Challenge

A beautiful late afternoon welcomed 61 Members as they arrived at WWGC to play in the Captain’s Charity Cross-Country Challenge. The course was looking splendid, bathed in sunshine, and with little wind, we all agreed it really was the most perfect setting for this fun competition.
With 16 groups teeing off from 4pm onwards, there was an air of joviality and enjoyment, with the occasional ‘fore’ being shouted, followed by harmless jeering and much laughter.
Despite it being a Cross-Country Challenge and therefore some yardage guesstimating, making it even more testing, we had some high scores. Congratulations to our overall winner Robert Penny coming in with a healthy 21 points. We had 5 runners up on 20 points (having to be separated on count back), resulting in Oliver Rush coming second and James Vincent third.
Our super chef Peter produced 54 burgers to feed the hungry masses, and thanks to Ruth and Lee for keeping us ‘watered’. It was wonderful to see the restaurant ‘buzzing’ on a Friday evening, surrounded by our beautiful views.
This fun event was to raise money for the Club Captain’s charity and the Ladies’ Captain’s charity, and with your attendance, we raised a very healthy £205 – so very many thanks to you all.
