Tony Bumstead pulls off a heist bigger than Brinks Matt!
62 players turn out for the Fitz & Rabbits Cups but are seen-off by a superb performance from 2016 Nairn Dunbar Open champion Tony Bumstead who takes the honours AND the 2s pot.
In difficult conditions most of the field found scoring anything near par a tremendous challenge in blustery 2-club winds and on a course set up for the previous day’s Gents Invitational event.
Tony managed to find 2s on the 13th and 16th with pins in arguably their most difficult positions and achieved twice what 61 other players couldn’t even do once on any of our five par 3s (310 opportunities for a birdie – Tony gets two). His net score of 62 was rewarded with the Fitz Cup and a handicap reduction of 2 shots – and you Tony, thought everyone was laughing at your joke!
The competition was run in two divisions; Div 1 for upto 18 (for the Fitz Cup), and Div 2 for 19-28 (Rabbits Cup). In contrast to last week the field stayed dry and even enjoyed a little sunshine late in the morning until they heard about Tony’s score of course. The full results sheets for both divisions are on the HowDidiDo website and the top 6 places were:
1st Tony Bumstead, 62
2nd Paul Davies, 66
3rd Nick Whiting, 66
4th Ray Gregory, 67
5th Dave Wilkin, 68
6th Dean Huntley, 68
The Rabbits Cup was won by Bert Weedon with a net 70 and in second place Wagglers captain Jeff Jones with a net 73. Well done guys.
