The PP&SS Trophy competition was established in 1929 by Messrs Polehampton, Payne, Stewart and Shaw.
The format is stableford played in two divisions; upto 18 and 28-28. Sunday’s competition encouraged one of the largest trophy competition entries of the year, 74 starters, perhaps highlighting the appetite for the stableford format amongst the membership.
Conditions on Sunday were, on the face of it, ideal for good scoring with little wind and receptive green but perhaps not as much run on the fairways as members have become used to over the past couple of months. Despite this the scoring was pretty woeful overall with very few players managing to play to handicap and many struggling to find the bottom of the cup. It was very much a day for earning an invite onto the Pro’s list for discounted lesson offers.
