A bitter, northerly 2-3 club wind greeted the 24 four-man teams that turned out for the annual Poppy Appeal Bowmaker at the club today, Sunday 12 November.
With two scores to count on each hole and playing off ¾ handicap, yellow tees and under winter rules the Bowmaker format is a popular format to start off the winter fun competitions.
Despite it staying dry, unlike Saturday when the medal scores were adversely affected by the rain, many teams found the conditions tough and scoring was relatively high amongst the lower placed groups. However, the two top-placed teams played some superb golf and notched up a feast of birdies amongst them and two outstanding scores.
Bragging rights for the early part of the winter season were taken by the team of Nick Whiting, Elliott (2-tees) James, Charlie Hamilton and Kev Keene who managed to get round in an excellent net score of 122 shots. Just one shot adrift, and matching last year’s winning score, was the team of Mike White, Ed Harris-Southey, Mike Rice and Kevin Lucas.
Of note is that the first 4 teams were mostly comprised of 1st Team players and the Club Champion, Iain Ferrie. Full results are below.
