A parting gift to MacMillan Cancer Support from 2016 Captain Walter Witts Warminster Golf Club
Many West Wilts GC members were present on Sunday 26 February 2017 to witness 2016 Captain Walter Witts' final official ceremony, namely, the presentation of a cheque for £883.20 to Macmillan Cancer Support.
It is long standing tradition for The Club Captain to nominate a chosen charity for his year of office and Walter has campaigned tirelessly throughout 2016 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Although reported earlier in the year, the 72 Hole Challenge with Chairman Neil Adams, current President Ivor Groskop and Howard Wood was very much Walter's brainchild and raised the magnificent sum of £4,087.64 for Macmillan.
In his 2016 Captain's Report delivered at The 97th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 23rd February 2017, Walter reflected upon the year's events which included The Club's 125th Anniversary which was celebrated with a well supported golf tournament and dinner dance. The Club has entered an exciting new era with the appointment of Lawrence Wilkin as Club Manager in addition to his existing position as Club Professional. He also bade fond farewell to Geoff Morgan, as Secretary, who retires after 16 years in office and The Frankles, Peter and Sandra, whose activities on the catering and entertainment front for the last 26 years have been praised consistently by both visiting teams and club members alike. Walter concluded by thanking Steve Few for his unstinting support as his 2016 Vice Captain and wished him every success as 2017 Club Captain.
As tradition dictates for those who managed to remain awake throughout the AGM proceedings, Steve Few invited those left standing to join him at the bar for a nightcap.
